The Silkmen’s lead at the top was shaved to four points thanks to Aldershot’s win at Dover while, for Moors, a seventh point from three games left manager Mark Yates satisfied and confident of making up the gap to safety.

“I thought we bossed most of the first half, we created a few chances and the lads were disappointed at half-time not to have got one or two,” he said.

“In the second half it didn’t quite happen for us and Macclesfield upped it a bit, but I’m pleased with the effort and we’ve only let in five or six goals in 11 games.
