Yesterday’s National Two clash between Old Redcliffians and Dings Crusaders also fell by the wayside after one of the visiting players came into contact with a person testing positive for the virus, while Macclesfield’s North Premier match against Wirral was called off.
With French rugby taking the drastic step last week of suspending matches at all levels for the foreseeable future and the PRO14 and Super Rugby also now on indefinite hold, it seems inevitable that Premiership Rugby and RFU competitions will have to follow suit.
