The pledge comes in the wake of its previous commitment that models launched from now on would have battery power.

There is also good news for UK staff the company is expected to build one of the electric models at its Sunderland plant.

Nissan's announcement comes less than a week after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak put back the UK's ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 to 2035.
