BORIS JOHNSON was today “on notice” that his future as Prime Minister could depend on a senior civil servant’s report into the Partygate scandal, expected within days.
He was warned the “jury is very much out” and that his political fate could be decided by Sue Gray’s report on a series of alleged parties in Downing Street. In another febrile day at Westminster:
• The Standard was told that three members of the executive of the 1922 Committee of backbench Tory MPs have handed in letters of no confidence in Mr Johnson with one, William Wragg, having gone public.
• Chancellor Rishi Sunak yesterday missed the Prime Minister’s performance in the Commons by continuing with an engagement in Devon. He later tweeted his support, saying that Mr Johnson was “right to apologise” and called for “patience”’ while Ms Gray conducted her inquiry.
• Mr Johnson pulled out of a planned visit to Lancashire “due to a family member testing positive for coronavirus”, Downing Street said.
• Cabinet minister Brandon Lewis said
