The Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA), in partnership with Sky News Arabia (SNA), hosted a virtual panel discussion to examine the changing role of societies, economies, and governments in combating climate change and protecting the environment, in the light of current global circumstances brought on by COVID-19.
The virtual panel discussion featured Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister for Climate Change and Environment; Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena); and Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin, the Ambassador of Denmark to the UAE.
More than 70 EDA students, guests and experts attended the dynamic conference, which was inspired by the eye-opening documentary, ‘Hot Ice.’ The unique documentary focuses on the role of climate change in geopolitics and how it took a drastic turn in the last decade. The documentary also shed light on how the disruption to the Earth’s climate will ultimately require more attention, and undoubtedly have a greater influence on international affairs.
The panel discussion was moderated by Sky News Arabia’s executive producer Nivine Afiouni, who was also the documentary’s executive producer and correspondent to the Arctic, reporting from Greenland and Iceland.
