Some European countries resumed AstraZeneca vaccinations Friday after an all-clear from EU regulators and the WHO, as US President Joe Biden was set to meet his goal of having 100 million Americans inoculated weeks ahead of schedule.
Coronavirus-related deaths in the European region surpassed 1 million on Friday as vaccination efforts attempt to keep up with new variants causing a third wave of infections that could once again overwhelm hospitals.
Since the pandemic began, at least 37,221,978 infections and 1,000,062 million deaths were reported in the European region, according to a Reuters tally.
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) registered 2,160 coronavirus cases on Friday. Additionally, 2,391 individuals have recovered and four people passed away. The MoHAP also noted that an additional 2,391 individuals had fully recovered.
The MoHAP also announced that 143,680 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given in the past 24 hours. The total number of doses provided up to Friday stands at 7,124,146 with a rate of vaccine distribution of 72.03 doses per 100 people.
