The southern state of Kerala, home to a large number of expatriates, will start registration for those who want to return as soon as it gets a federal nod.
The Non-Resident Keralite Affairs (Norka) department on Thursday said the process was to set up facilities for their mandatory quarantine, which is now 28 days.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said it had made quarantine facilities for 200,000 people expecting more than half a million expatriates to return.
The expatriates should mandatorily carry a COVID-19 negative certificate if they want to return home.
Harikrishnan Namboothiri, the chief executive officer of Norka-Roots, the department’s field agency, said they were ready to start preparations as soon as they got the permission.
On Thursday, ten more people tested positive while only eight recovered, continuing a reverse trend for the last three days after flattening the curve since April 6.
“Various state government agencies are identifying spaces for quarantine, but a decision has to come from the centre,” he told Gulf Today.
