More than 200,000 confirmed deaths worldwide from coronavirus on Saturday as the United Nations launched an international push for a vaccine to defeat the pandemic.
The UN push for a quick vaccine came a day after US President Donald Trump prompted outcry and ridicule with his suggestion that disinfectants be used to treat coronavirus patients.
The Health Ministry on Saturday has reported 532 new cases of COVID-19, which pushes the total cases in the UAE to 9,813.
The Health Ministry also announced the death of seven patients from COVID-19. The deceased are of various nationalities and suffered from pre-existing chronic illnesses. The total number of deaths has now reached 71. There were 127 new recoveries, or a total of 1,887 recoveries reported so far in the UAE.
A seven-year-old girl Leen has become one of the youngest survivors in the UAE to win the battle against the deadly COVID-19. The little girl was hospitalised on April 14 after she suffered high grade fever, severe cough, and breathlessness.
As suspected, she tested positive for COVID-19. After undergoing treatment for over a week, Leen has now completely recovered.
