Assisted dying appeal as TDs to vote on Bill

THE only person to be prosecuted for assisted dying in the history of the State says she hopes TDs will “vote with their conscience”.

A draft of the Dying with Dignity Bill comes before the Dail next week as the campaign backed by Vicky Phelan gathers momentum.

Gail O’Rorke, who was cleared in 2015 of assisting the suicide of Bernadette Forde in 2011, said the time for change is now.

She told the Irish Mirror: “I think Vicky Phelan has been the catalyst.

“I feel she has given the campaign a momentum and that public opinion has shifted.”
