Taking stern action against BJP leaders Anurag Thakur and & Parvesh Verma, the Election Commission banned both of them from campaigning with immediate effect. Thakur has been banned for 72 hours while Verma has been banned for 96 hours. Both to continue to be off the star campaigners’ list of BJP.
The decision was taken at the commission meeting on Thursday and came hours after both submitted their response to the ECI. The deadline given to them was 12 noon on Thursday.
The commission had asked for a full transcript of Thakur and Varma's speeches from Delhi CEO office along with videos and notice to Thakur was sent after examining the CEO report.
The minister, who was campaigning for the BJP candidate in Rithala Manish Chaudhary in North West Delhi for the February 8 Delhi election, can be seen prompting “desh ke gaddaron ko...”, to which the crowd responds "...goli maaro sa***n ko".
