Car makers are ‘Driven To Serve'

Thousands of people, dozens of communities and hectares of forests carry the signs of good deeds of companies in the Philippine automotive industry.

Those come under the name of “corporate social responsibility” or CSR, which the automotive manufacturers and distributors and their foundations, have taken as part of their corporate vision.

This week, 16 CSR projects were recognized with the Driven To Serve award of the Society of Philippine Motoring Journalists (SPMJ) in zoom awarding ceremonies which carried the elements of the New Normal. Coming nine months after the judging sessions held in February, the tributes to the awardees have not become muted by time.

The outstanding results of those CSR programs have produced many success stories who will never forget the good deeds of a corporation.

Among them are students from the poorest communities who were given free education and training — and jobs — and are now giving their families better lives. Those are the people who benefited from the education and training programs of Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), Ford Group Philippines, Isuzu Philippines, and Toyota Motor Philippines.

There are the women given free mammograms and treatments by the CSR programs as part of breast cancer awareness programs of HARI and Toyota.
