He takes over the post his father Stalin held for 30 years
Tamil film actor-producer Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of DMK president M.K. Stalin, was on Thursday appointed secretary of the party’s youth wing.
He replaces former MLA Vellakoil M.P. Saminathan, who was appointed to the post after Mr. Stalin stepped down in early 2017 to take over as working president of the party. Mr. Stalin had held the post of youth wing leader for over 30 years.
DMK general secretary K. Anbazhagan, in a statement, said: “Mr. Saminathan has been relieved from the post of DMK youth wing secretary and Mr. Udhayanidhi has been appointed [in his place] as per Rule 18 and 19 of the party. Mr. Saminathan has been made member of the high-level executive committee of the party.” The announcement was greeted with bursting of crackers and distribution of sweets by jubilant DMK cadre.
