To this end, my partner and I took a trip up the A82, one of the country’s most scenic routes, to stay at the Bridge of Orchy Hotel in northern Argyll.

The four-star hotel sits at the base of five Munros – Beinn Achaladair, Beinn a’Chreachain, Beinn Dorain, Beinn Mhanach and Beinn an Dothaidh.

Stroll along the river close by and you may spot ospreys, eagles, red deer and red squirrels.

The village of Tyndrum, and the famous Green Welly Stop, is a 10-minute drive for a change of scene, a quick snack and a bit of retail therapy.
