Bagha Purana (Moga): Like the Maghi Mela of 2016, where AAP kickstarted its campaign for the 2017 assembly elections in Punjab, the party sounded the poll bugle for the 2022 polls with a Kisan Maha Sammelan here on Sunday. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal pushed his party volunteers to prepare for the elections due next year by reaching out to the people while taking on the Centre for bringing in “anti-farm” laws and the Punjab government for promises unkept.
Addressing the rally, Kejriwal reminded the people of the “big promises” made by Congress in the last elections in Punjab. Congress promised jobs to the youth, unemployment allowance, cheaper electricity, old-age pensions, smartphones, and loan/debt waiver to farmers, but the Capt Amarinder Singh-led government had failed to deliver, he said. Appealing for support to AAP in the next elections, he promised to make Punjab prosperous by replicating the Delhi model.
