  • 8/47 Jasprit Bumrah (5/24 + 3/23) has produced his best bowling figures in a Test on home soil. Bumrah’s performance is his second-best in a winning cause after the 9/86 vs Australia in Melbourne in Dec 2018. Bumrah’s figures are now the best by an Indian bowler against SL, bettering Ishant Sharma’s 8/86 in Colombo in Aug 2015.
  • 8 Times Ravindra Jadeja has got Angelo Matthews out in Tests (6 times in 2017, twice in 2022), the most times a bowler has captured the Lankan batter’s wicket. Jadeja has also dismissed Moeen Ali and Alastair Cook 7 times each.
  • 442 With Dhananjaya de Silva’s wicket, Ravichandran Ashwin went past South African Dale Steyn’s tally of 439 Test wickets. Ashwin has now moved into 8th place in the list of all-time wicket-takers with  442 wickets at 24.13 in 86 Tests.
  • 14 Hundreds, including two vs India, scored by Karunaratne in Tests: 7 in wins, 6 in defeats and one in a drawn game.
  • 2 Shreyas Iyer has been adjudged the Man of the Match for the second time in Tests, his first being on debut against New Zealand in Kanpur in Nov 2021.
  • 1 Rishabh Pant has received his first Player of the series award in Tests for aggregating 185 at 61.66 and effecting 8 dismissals (5 catches + 3 stumpings).

Bengaluru: An improbable target of 447, nine wickets in hand and pride at stake. It was a question of how long Sri Lanka could hold off a resurgent India. In the final innings of what has been a forgettable tour for the Islanders, they put up their best show, which helped them reduce the margin of defeat.
