Kanpur / Lucknow: Hayat Zafar Hashmi, the main accused in the June 3 Kanpur violence has revealed several sources, including builders, businessmen and political functionaries, who were involved in funding his organisation.
"Hashmi has accepted that he was involved in crowd-funding. Besides, he got a huge amount of money through donations from across the state that came to his Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Fans Association. He also accepted that people from many districts of UP are associated with his organisation," an investigator told TOI on the condition of anonymity.
Hashmi and his three aides who police claim are members of Popular Front of India (PFI) were taken on police remand on Saturday. Enforcement Directorate (ED), meanwhile, has also approached the Kanpur police seeking details of the three PFI members, Saifullah, Mohammad Naseem and Mohammad Umar, arrested from Kanpur on June 9.
