Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate on Monday questioned Congress leader in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in connection with its investigation into a case of alleged money laundering registered against Young Indian, a charitable organisation which acquired Associated Journals Ltd (AJL) and its assets worth over Rs 400 crore from Congress.
AJL is the publisher of the National Herald newspaper and now 99% controlled by Young Indian where Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her two children, Rahul and Priyanka, are majority shareholders. Kharge, who is the CEO of Young Indian, has been summoned again amid indications of the investigation moving closer to probing the role of Sonia Gandhi and her two children under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Gandhis incorporated Young Indian and acquired AJL sometime in 2011-12.
Pawan Bansal, the MD of AJL and also the interim treasurer of Congress, has been summoned by the ED on Tuesday in connection with the transactions of AJL and the Young Indian.
