Monkeypox Reaches The Capital: Doctors List Out Symptoms, Precautionary Measures

With over 16,000 reported cases from 75 coun-tries of monkeypox outbreak, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the disease as a public health emergency on Saturday. “In light of the evolving monkeypox outbreak... I reconvened the emergency committee. Based on the International Health Regulations criteria, I decided to declare this outbreak a public health emergency of international concern,” Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of WHO said in a media briefing.

“With the tools we have right now, we can stop monkeypox transmission and bring this outbreak under control. It’s essential that all countries work closely with affected communities to adopt measures that protect their health, human rights and dignity,” he added. While India reported its fourth case of monkeypox recently, doctors explain the disease, how it spreads and things that one can keep in mind if they think they have developed symptoms for it.

DOCTORS ON HOW THE TRANSMISSION OF MONKEYPOX VIRUS TAKES PLACE

The viral zoonosis disease can spread from animal to human through a bite or scratch, contact of body fluid, indirect contact (with the contaminated bedding of the animal).

From human to human via direct contact of body fluids or touching a patient’s infected rashes or via indirect contact through contaminated clothes.

Transmission can also take place through lesions, contaminated materials such as clothing, body fluids or utensils used by the infected person.
