It’s WW2 again, but this COD isn’t looking battered
Call Of Duty: Vanguard
FORMAT PS5, PS4 / ETA 5 NOV / PUB ACTIVISION / DEV SLEDGEHAMMER GAMES / PLAYERS 1-64 (ALL MODES TBC)

FACTRICK

1. WWII SQUARED

One of Sledgehammer Games’ previous CODs was WWII. It’s not the studio’s first shot at this time period.

2. KIWI PLAYER

Australian character Lucas Riggs is based on Charles Upham… an extraordinary soldier from New Zealand.

3. MAP HYSTERIA

Cold War was criticised for launching with eight maps; Vanguard gets 20, including four for Champion Hill.

How did you feel when you found out the next Call Of Duty was going back to the Second World War? Surprised? Disappointed? Angry? Hungry? We can’t really help with that last one, but we can tell you that from what we’ve seen so far, there’s no reason to fear a lazy retread of what’s come before. It’s familiar, but not tired.

For one thing, this isn’t quite the war that we know. Set in a slightly differing timeline, the campaign features multiple protagonists fighting across the Pacific, the Western front, the Eastern front, and the North Africa. The heroes are based on real-life soldiers from the war, and set the scene for the birth of Special Forces. The Nazi party has been defeated, but a big bad is trying to pull it back together again, and it’s your job to stop him.
