Enix is proving committed to PlayStation, recently offering fresh information about the recently delayed Forspoken and announcing two brand-new projects. All three titles will be released this year.
The first of these, Luminous Productions’ Forspoken, will leap onto PS5 on 11 October. Protagonist Frey Holland, played by actress Ella Balinska, is ripped from the streets of New York and transported to a world called Athia, as fantastical as it is dangerous. Here be dragons, big beasties, and the despotic Tantas. Athia’s former rulers, the Tantas were once beloved as protectors of the realm before a sudden mysterious transformation into its oppressors.
Frey never gets off on the right foot with the Tantas, finding herself an unwitting trespasser on Tanta Sila’s territory as soon as she touches down in Athia. If she ever wants to see New York again, she must defeat each Tanta, and perhaps uncover the reasons behind their heel turn into despotism along the way.
The Tantas wield powerful magic but our fresh look shows Frey has more than a few tricks of her own up her sleeve – literally. Her glittering bangles are both the source of her newfound powers and a chatty adventuring companion. Along with super-charged parkour moves, the sentient jewellery, known as Cuff, grants Frey access to a slew of spells: Frey’s Storm Dart ability fires off a round of electricity; Burst Shot pelts enemies in rapid succession; and an ability named sweep through most encounters – and those are just for starters. As Frey gets to grips with her powers, she’ll also learn how to conjure a whip of magical energy, fry enemies in a shocking area-of-effect attack, and skim the surface of water without so much as a paddle. It’s shaping up to be something spectacular.
