One of the most amazing statements ever made about the Jewish people was made by the wife of one of their greatest enemies.
Esther 6:13 records the words of Zeresh, the wife of Haman: “If Mordecai, before whom your downfall has started, is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him, you will surely come to ruin!”
Haman descended from the Amalekites and had a pathological hatred of the Jews. Yet the words of Zeresh were so perceptive and sum up the incredible history of the Jewish people, who have survived millennia of hatred and hostility along with countless attempts to destroy them.
Psalm 129:1-2 sums it up perfectly: “They have greatly persecuted me from my youth, let Israel say – they have greatly persecuted me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me.”
