Sundaramurthy Nayanar

Sundaramurthy Nayanar is one of the most prominent among the 63 Nayanmars. He is said to have visited 84 temples, covering a few thousand kilometres on foot, and has composed about 3800 hymns. Unfortunately, though only 1000 of these hymns are now available.

He was born to Saivite parents, Sadaya Nayanar and Isaigyaniyar. It is significant that his parents had found a place among the 63 Nayanmars. He was named Nambiyarurar and was adopted by King Narasinga Munaiyarayar who was captivated by the divine charm of the boy. He grew up in the royal palace. simultaneously learning the Vedas.
