A COCKEREL AND BALL STORY!
Be it the iconic crest on the lilywhite shirt or the famous statue that once perched at White Hart Lane and now overlooks Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the cockerel standing on a ball is the globally recognised symbol of Spurs. As we recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of its first appearance on our famous shirt – in the 1921 FA Cup Final – we take a look at the history of our cockerel in this feature taken from the excellent book, Tottenham Hotspur: The Complete History.

Now that we’re in a year ending in ‘One’ and celebrating a number of anniversaries of our previous trophy triumphs, in each matchday programme this season we’ll reflect on one game that we played along the road to glory in one of those successes.

THE HISTORY BOYS
Last Tuesday, we celebrated the 120th anniversary of the first – and some might argue, most important – trophy win in our history, when we defeated today’s opponents Sheffield United in an FA Cup Final replay while still a non-league team.

Making over 200 appearances for us, local lad STEVE SEDGELY went on to become a Spurs legend as he helped us to our eighth FA Cup in 1991. We recently caught up with ‘Sedge’ to chat about his time at the Club, his career since and find out what he is up to now.

When we won our first Division One title in 1951, center-forward Len Duquemin scored 14 goals. But it was the last of them – at home to Sheffield Wednesday – that started the celebrations.

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation staff will take on a virtual race across Europe to raise funds for local organisations supporting vulnerable children and families.
