Daystate Wolverine R Hi-Lite TALON SPOTTING PART 2

Daystate’s Wolverine R Hi-Lite is the top-end, regulated version of the popular sporter. Last month, we gave it the preliminary once over, and now it’s time to get hands-on

TWO ARE BETTER

You might have noticed that this model has two pressure gauges side by side, and that’s for good reason.

The gauge nearest the front shows the residual cylinder pressure, and the other one displays the Huma regulator pressure, which on my gun, looked to be set at 80bar. Daystate is unique in that it has arrived at a system whereby each rifle’s breech block is marked to show a specific fill pressure, apparently decided during testing at the assembly stage. My review rifle was marked up with 230bar, but this can be up to 250bar. Basically, go by the figure marked up, and stick with it.

Charging is very straightforward, and the air inlet valve sits on the underside of the action, neatly covered by a small magnetic plug. Just pull the plug away, then connect the air supply, via the snap-on Foster adapter supplied. The inlet recess is quite deep which could make access awkward (not sure why it has to be like this) but Daystate does at least supply an unusually long adaptor, to make the job easier.

SIDE ISSUES

Aside from the recent popularity of regulators, sidelevers are also very much in vogue, and Daystate’s design here is extremely slick, and from an engineering point of view, aesthetically pleasing. In keeping with the ambidextrous credentials of this model, that lever can also be switched from the right side to the left, if need be, so there’s no bar to lefties whatsoever.
