Well, it is month three in Wales and things are just getting better and better regarding the ground to shoot. Alan gave me a call because he was going to check out a ground that he hadn’t shot for a couple of years – not because he hadn’t wanted to shoot there, but more that he had got on top of the pest situation and the landowner was happy to cool it off for a while. Since Alan’s last visit, there have been more horses put on the grounds and the rabbits have made quite a recovery in numbers, so we had to go and check it out.
Alan picked me up at around 2 o’clock, so we had around two hours of good usable daylight left. He decided to leave his rifle at home and let me shoot, but I’d already packed both Galahads so he could shoot, too. I know Alan loves the Galahad. He drools over my FAC version every time we go out, so it was only fair that he got the chance to have a session with my sub-12 .177.
PERFECT TERRITORY
When we got to the ground, it was perfect airgun hunting territory – hedges, small woodland and plenty of fields to walk around, and as we got out of the truck I could see jackdaws, rabbits and the odd pigeon out feeding. We’d been informed that there were new neighbours living in the adjoining property to the farm, and they hadn’t been told about us coming, so we decided to go and introduce ourselves and assure them that they would be safe.
