New Perm Catty Walk

Whilst England has its rules relaxed, Eddie Jones finds himself still under lockdown in Wales

New Perm Catty Walk

While you guys and girls are enjoying the freedom of going about your pest control, here in Wales we are still in the grip of lockdown. Whilst it is a pain in the butt, there is a sense that keeping ourselves safe is worth the odd session missed. It is not all doom and gloom, though. During my daily walk, I noticed a ground that is plastered in rabbits. It’s about a two-mile walk along an old rail track to get to it, and the track runs alongside the river – it’s such a beautiful place to be.

I had been walking this track for weeks when I finally saw someone walking their dogs through the fields and heading toward me, so I quickly upped my pace so I could intercept him at a gate where he had to cross the footpath to reach the other half of the ground. As you know, you have to come across as friendly as possible and I made no exception. I asked him if he was the landowner and he told me that he just lived on the edge of the ground, but he did know the farmer very well. After I’d told him what I did with the magazines, and that I was after somewhere local to do some shooting, he was straight on the phone to the landowner. Well, it took an age to get the landowner to agree to let me shoot the ground – all of five minutes. What a result! There is over 500 acres of prime rabbiting ground that I can stalk anytime I want.
