Let's All Try The PC Approach!

There’s been quite a reaction to my ‘discovery’ of a new approach to airgun shooting. For those who didn’t endure my fulsome explanation of this mini phenomenon in last month’s Editor’s Test’, allow me to explain in as few words as I can. I discovered, through many contacts with our readers, conversations with friends, and the sales reports from trade contacts, that single-shot PCPs have seen a significant boost in sales and use during the months of the Covid-19 pandemic.

PUSHING IT

I was told by those using these rifles that they were enjoying pushing their accuracy to as high a level as possible, given the restrictions of their garden ranges, and that the challenge of shooting smaller and smaller groups was as therapeutic as it was enjoyable. From this I deduced that, in a global situation where so much is beyond our control, achieving something as worthwhile as clinical, precise accuracy, within the confines of a tiny bit of the world where we can still do as we please, was quite a big deal.

GETTING INVOLVED

I wanted to sample and explore this ‘PC’ Personal Challenge - shooting myself, so I asked Air Arms to send me an S500 rifle and a sleeve of their excellent Diabolo Field Trophy pellets, which they kindly did. For the record, you can call it what you like, of course, but I chose ‘PC’ because the normal use of that term has been such a curse on my world, so I wanted to use it in a constructive, entirely positive way.
