On 31st birth anniversary of his late team-mate, Phillip Hughes, David Warner paid him a special tribute by scoring a record-breaking triple century at the Adelaide Oval. It will always be a special cricketing memory for Warner since he was also quite close to his former opening partner.

Warner, who threatened to break the world record of Brian Lara’s highest individual score, could only be stopped by declaration made by Australian skipper Tim Paine. But not before he made an unbeaten 335 that included 39 fours and a six. What’s more special is the fact that he scored his runs at a rapid strike-rate of 80.14.

From starting out as a T20 specialist, who hadn’t even played a single first-class game at the time of his international debut, to getting a guard of honour from his teammates for scoring a triple-century in Test cricket, this pocket-dynamo has come a long way in what has been an illustrious yet controversial cricket career. Warner surpassed Don Bradman and Mark Taylor’s highest score of 334* to become the second-highest run-scorer for his country in a Test innings, second only to Matthew Hayden’s 380.
