The term 'captain cool' has been associated with former India skipper MS Dhoni for many years. The man from Ranchi was known for his calm and composed ways as captain, which also reflected in his batting style and the manner in which players responded to his leadership. Over the last few years, another captain has made a name with a similar leadership style. And, although he was may never be referred to so as one, he has definitely proved that he is the new captain cool of international cricket. We are talking about none other than New Zealand's all-format skipper Kane Williamson.
Under Williamson, the Kiwis have reached the kind of heights that experts never believed that they could achieve, given the limited potential of the team.
However, under Kane's able leadership, New Zealand have transformed from being threats to big sides to genuine match-winners in their own right. In the last three years, the Kiwis have made all three finals of the ICC events held. Yes, they also reached the finals of the 2015 World Cup under Brendon McCullum, which heralded a new era in New Zealand. But it is under Williamson that they seem to be hitting their peak.
