2012 Bubba’s ‘wonder shot’ sinks Louis

Following one of the most incredible shots in Masters history, Bubba Watson beat Louis Oosthuizen at the second play-off hole to claim the first of his two Masters titles.

It turned into quite a contest on Easter Sunday, with Watson, Oosthuizen and Matt Kuchar all joining battle. Oosthuizen hit the front with a remarkable albatross two on the 2nd and still held the lead with three to play, but Watson drew level with a two on 16, leading to a two-man play-off. On the second play-off hole – the 10th –Oosthuizen’s tee shot went right, but not as far right as Bubba’s. Oosthuizen missed the green, but it looked like bogey would be enough to keep him involved, as Watson appeared to be facing a chip-out from the woods.

However, Bubba had other ideas, conjuring up an almost impossible right-angled hook with a wedge that found the green, then spun back up the slope to finish 15ft away. The South African couldn’t save par, and Watson two-putted for the title as the tears began to flow. A fitting finish to a very fine tournament indeed.

2017 Sergio sees off Rose to get over the line

This was the 74th Major Sergio Garcia had contested. He had notched 22 top-tens and four runner-up finishes, but many, Garcia included, questioned whether he would ever win one. These questions continued right through the final round, a two-horse race between Garcia and Justin Rose.

Is it Time for the Presidents Cup to Be Scrapped? - The next instalment of the USA v Internationals match takes place in Canada at the end of September. But should the one-sided affair continue?

The next instalment of the USA v Internationals match takes place in Canada at the end of September. But should the one-sided affair continue? Why would anyone even suggest such a drastic course of action? It may sound harsh, but since the inaugural event in 1994, the International team has managed just one victory and one tie while the American team has won 12 times, including nine straight from 2005. It is 26 years since the International team's solitary success in 1998 at Royal Melbourne under the captaincy of the late Peter Thomson.
