If you’ve been around the east coast for a while, you definitely know the Mcguire’s. Lance is a former AA-pro who is now the reigning NAG champion in 28-35 Men and his wife, Jill, tears it up on the big bike which is why she has a ROC 1 plate strapped on to her bars. We recently grabbed a word with the new Colorado residents about their journey in the sport.
Pull: Being one of the fastest amateur couples in BMX, How did you guys meet?
Jill: We met through Bill Zimmerman when we were both on Bethany Cycle/ Burger King and Wooden Wheels in the 90’s. We were friends for years and even roommates a couple times before we were dating. We’ll be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary in a few weeks.
Lance: We both rode on a team named Bethany Cycle/ Burger King around 1999. We were friends for years but didn’t start dating until our mid 20’s.
Pull: Do you guys train together?
Jill: We do, we ride the tracks and go to the gym together. We both recently started on James Sheely’s training program so the gym has been a lot more routine for me. I look forward to our date nights lifting every week, it’s great having that support and being able to push each other.
Lance: Yes. We are currently training using James Sheely’s program. This has really helped with the push to the Grand’s this year.
Pull: Both of you all are originally from the east coast, correct? How are you enjoying life in Colorado?

GOLD CUP NORTH CENTRAL
If there is one good thing about this year’s Covid closures of states and counties, it is that tracks that might not normally have gotten a shot at hosting a National or Gold Cup event, were now given that opportunity.

GOLD CUP SOUTHEAST
This year the DK Bicycles Gold Cup South East Finals were held at one of the fastest BMX tracks in Alabama - Circle City BMX, in Dothan. If trying to claim one of the coveted Gold Cup Plates brought you to Circle City BMX for your first time you might have been surprised when you first saw the track layout.
GOLD CUP SOUTHWEST
When you roll into the local Quiktrip and one of Tucson’s finest looks at your shirt and asks if you know Corben Sharrah, you can only be in one city in America. Often coined as the loudest city in BMX, it doesn’t matter if there is a single fan or a gaggle of Tucsonans, they know how to bring the energy.
GOLD CUP NORTHEAST
With all of the uncertainty in event planning this year, it was not a huge surprise that the DK Bicycles North East Gold Cup Finals shifted locations somewhat last minute. We were very lucky to have it and at a great location, Akron BMX in Akron, Ohio. The Big Red Truck was last here for the 2018 North East Gold Cup Finals, and the track is located in a pretty incredible location.
