THE PLACE
GymGround was founded recently by former national gymnast Gregory Gan. The impetus to start the studio came about after the gym that he was working at closed, and his regular students wanted to continue with his training routines.
When we first met, immediately, he dispels the myth that people have of gymnastics.
Gregory explains. “It’s not just about jumping, running, and bouncing around. Gymnastics also has a side that focuses almost exclusively on training core strength, holding power, and functional flexibility. At GymGround, this is what our training programs are based on and there is no leaping or jumping,”
Situated on the top floor of a shophouse along Neil Road, the spacious and uncluttered studio has a very clean, unpretentious, friendly and airy feel to it. Gregory and his instructors will scale exercises according to the levels of the students, and he tells us that while some come for classes out of curiosity, a large percentage have specific fitness or flexibility goals in mind that he would work out with them on a long term, achievable timeline.
