Derek Carr’s name coming up in trade rumors has become as much an annual tradition in the NFL offseason as free agency and the draft. For the past three years the Raiders quarterback has heard chatter that his time with the silver and black was coming to an end, only to find out the rumors had no teeth.
Thus Carr was able to easily shrug off the latest round of gossip suggesting that Tom Brady will replace him as the Raiders starting quarterback in 2020. The six-time Super Bowl champion’s contract with the New England Patriots expired, leaving his future in the NFL up in the air.
And while writers around the country quickly began linking the 14-time Pro Bowl quarterback to their respective teams, the Raiders jumped to the forefront after Brady was seen chopping it up with owner Mark Davis at the UFC fight between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone. That the fight took place in Las Vegas, the Raiders’ new home, only served to fuel speculation that Brady is on his way in and Carr is on his way out.
Much like he has every other time it has been suggested the Raiders part ways with Carr, the 28year-old veteran quarterback laughed it all off. At the same time, it’s clear that Carr is also tiring of having to defend himself every time the rumor mill starts up.

Wanted: Defensive coordinator

NEWS & NOTES
The Raiders had one of the easier schedules in 2020 and got only eight wins to show for it. Things won’t get any easier in 2021, either.
Looking back at 2020 season
The 2020 season will absolutely be remembered for being one of the strangest and most disappointing in franchise history.
Gruden feeling the heat?
“I know there is a big bull’s-eye on my chest, certainly. If the people want to use that as an incentive, then so be it. I worked for Al Davis in 1998. That was pressure. I was 34 years old. I’ve dealt with pressure before. I don’t really feel pressure. I love the excitement and thrill of competing, and I can’t worry about things I can’t control in that regard. I know people will want to step on me and beat me, and that is just the way this league is.”
