ENGLAND U19s had no answer to Australian leg-spinner Lloyd Pope but wicket-keeper Jack Davies insists their tournament should not be judged on one bad hour.
Unfortunately for them, that hour was catastrophic as England slumped from 47-0 to 96 all out while trying to chase down Australia’s 127 in their World Cup quarter-final.
When it came to Pope, only opener Tom Banton (58) had any answer, but despite the legspinner’s 8-35, Davies believes his team have shown they are much stronger side than in 2017 when they were whitewashed by India on home soil.
“We are obviously pretty devastated after the loss, especially given how the game played out,” said Davies, who was left stranded on 11 not out in the defeat.
“We talked after the game but there’s no point dwelling on it too much, we can’t let it ruin the rest of our time here.
“We have to hold our hands up and say that on the day we weren’t good enough.
“There are a few shots which we’ll reflect on and the way we went about our game which we’ll try to work on going forward.
