Given we’ve had the wettest pre-season I can remember this year, it was perhaps no surprise that it’s been the bowlers who have stolen the thunder of the batsmen in this opening fortnight of the new County Championship season.
Runs have certainly been at a premium up and down the country so far but there’s been no shortage of competitive edge and top individual performances on show is what’s been an intriguing start to the new campaign.
No one scored more runs last weekend than our own Colin Ackermann as the Fischer Ground bucked the trend somewhat with the only real run-fest of the season so far against Sussex.
Chasing a first-innings 438-8 on a tricky pitch was always going to be tough but the guys did well and it was nice to match their score and limit them to a lead of just 16 at the midway stage.
