Double Century For Christian

Exclusive Interview with our Danish midfield maestro, who hit the heights again to play a big part in Saturday's success against Stoke City on what was his 200th Spurs appearance.

Jon Rayner
Double Century For Christian
Christian Eriksen was as surprised as anyone when he discovered Saturday’s match was a significant one in his Tottenham Hotspur career.

The Danish playmaker was sat in the dressing room having just played his part in our 5-1 demolition of Stoke City here at Wembley, looking through social media at the post-match reaction when something caught his eye.

A graphic appeared on his screen, announcing that this had been his 200th appearance in a Spurs shirt since joining us from Ajax in August, 2013. It wasn’t something the 25-year-old had been aware of it, but he was delighted to have scored and assisted in a game which was an important one for both the player and the club.

Not only did it signify his double century for us, but the performance and the scoreline was a return to the sort of form that we showed throughout most of last season at the Lane and again at times this term, with the Potters victory going into the folder marked ‘convincing home wins’ alongside those against Liverpool, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

“It’s gone quickly,” said Christian, whose first game for us came on September 14, 2013, when we beat Norwich City 2-0 in N17 (above). “It’s a big deal for me and I’m very pleased about the achievement. It was a nice win for my 200th game as well and, after a few draws and some lost points, this feels really good.”

While those aforementioned victories here at Wembley stand out, it’s the results that Christian references that have had a big influence on our season so far. Home draws against Burnley, Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion and even the narrow wins here against Crystal Palace and Bournemouth have somewhat been the story of the campaign.
