Young full-back Kyle Walker-Peters has gone from child’s play to top-level football in just a few short years – and as he continues to learn his trade among our senior stars, he sees the Carabao Cup as another potential platform to continue his development.

In February, 2008, a 10-year-old Spurs fan from Edmonton looked down from the top tier of the stands here at Wembley as Jonathan Woodgate won us the League Cup with an extra-time header against Chelsea in the final.

Fast forward to the present day and that same lad, now 20 and part of our first team squad, dreams of following a similar path and helping to bring that same piece of silverware back to the club for what would be a fifth time in our history.

For Kyle Walker-Peters, that journey begins tonight.

With a Premier League debut on the opening day of the season at Newcastle United under his belt, the fledgling full-back has remained in and around the match day squad in recent weeks and would like nothing more than to pick up some more game time as we embark on another League Cup campaign with high hopes all round.

“On a personal level I would love to get some more minutes in this competition and use it as an opportunity to impress but on a team note, we’re looking to win this trophy,” said the Academy graduate. “We’re all winners here, we look to win these competitions and hopefully this year we can do it. Obviously we have to take it one step at a time, though, and so first and foremost we have to try to beat Barnsley tonight.
