For our final match at the Lane here is the last in our series where we ask our former players to look back on their memories on and off the pitch at White Hart Lane.
Today, we are delighted to feature JIMMY GREAVES, who made 321 appearances for the club between 1961 and 1970 scoring 220 goals, winning the FA Cup in 1962 and 1967 and the 1963 European Cup Winners’ Cup.
What are your memories of your first match at White Hart Lane?
My home debut was against Blackpool in the early part of the 1961-62 season. After being at Chelsea for three seasons, then a short spell with AC Milan, I was delighted when Bill Nicholson brought me back to England to join the mighty Spurs.
It was Bill’s idea to set the fee at £99,999 as it was decided not to label me as being the first £100,000 signing in English football. I did play first for the reserves at Plymouth Argyle in a midweek Football Combination game. They normally played in front of 2-3,000 fans but that night in Devon we attracted a crowd of 15,000. I managed to score a hat-trick on my first team debut versus Blackpool and was particularly pleased with my third goal, a scissors kick which pleased the supporters. That started a love affair for me with the super Spurs fans at White Hart Lane.

OBITUARY – JOHNNIE HILLS
We were saddened to hear of the passing of John ‘Johnnie’ Hills, a defender who spent 11 years at the Club as an amateur and professional between 1950-61. He passed away at home in Brussels, Belgium, on Friday, 26 November, aged 87.
