Lessons Learnt As Toffees Hit Second-Half Salvo

A tight encounter burst into life in the second half as titlechasing Everton got the best of a four-goal spell in 14 minutes at Goodison Park before running out comfortable winners in the Premier League 2 on Monday night.

Chances were few and far between in the early stages with the first serious opportunity arriving on 26 minutes when Marcus Edwards dribbled into the box from the left, only for Brendan Galloway to block his shot from 10 yards.

Shilow Tracey then had an effort blocked by Toffees’ goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt, with Christian Maghoma rising well to meet the ensuing corner but heading over.

Everton hit back as Dominic Calvert- Lewin headed wide from Ademola Lookman’s cross and the sides went into the break all square in a very even contest.

It was a very different affair after the interval though, as the hosts stepped up a gear and took control during a goal-laden spell in the game. Two players with first team experience created the opening goal on 61 minutes, as Brendan Galloway broke from deep, his cross from the left evaded everyone and reached Lookman who turned home at the far post.
