SERGIO REGUILON
Spain international, joined us from Real Madrid in September.
What will you do on Christmas Day?
“Eat some good food and just relax at home. Nothing too much. Then I will look forward to winning our matches in the rest of December! That is what I hope for.”
How does this differ from past Christmases for you?
“It’s very different here in England compared to Spain – the food, the weather – it’s so cold here! Normally I would be with lots of my family members in Spain. It’s unusual for me to have training and matches at this time of year because in the past there has usually been a winter break in La Liga, although this year they are playing matches in the week after Christmas too.”
What is traditional at Christmas in Spain?
“Just to eat a lot, be with your friends, with your family, exchange gifts and enjoy life. Many families eat their main meal in the evening on 24 December.”
What is your favourite festive meal?
“Pavo! The Spanish phrase is ‘Pavo Trufado de Navidad’ – it’s a Christmas turkey that is served with mushrooms stuffed inside.”
What do you wish for at Christmas?
“Dele is here with me as we’re talking and he’s asking if I want a PS5! But no, I want ‘salud’ – that’s health for my family and friends and all the Spurs supporters.”
What was your most memorable gift as a child?
“When I was young, I clearly remember getting my first proper-sized football. That was a big moment in my life!”
