Exclusive interview with HUGO LLORIS, our humble club captain who last weekend wrote his name into our history books by becoming our record Premier League appearance maker. Paul Miles sat down with the French international to get his thoughts on his nine years at Spurs.

O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN!

If we’ve learned anything about Hugo Lloris over the last nine years, it’s that he’s not one to shout from the rooftops about himself.

Even in the moments after one of the most important saves of his career - denying Sergio Aguero from the penalty spot in the Champions League quarter-final, first leg against Manchester City in April, 2019, crucial as we won 1-0 and eventually went through on away goals - Hugo’s response was ‘it’s part of the game’.

When he repeated the trick against City in a 2-0 victory in the Premier League last season, this time keeping out Ilkay Gundogan, Hugo said: “Listen, it’s just one important action in the game.”

Club captain and legend, World Cup-winning captain of France, now into his 10th season at Spurs and having worn the armband here since 2014, Hugo is one of the best goalkeepers of his generation and the definition of a leader. He’s hugely respected by everyone in the game, a loyal, humble servant to this Club described this week by Henry Winter of The Times as ‘a beacon of quiet but strong leadership’.

Last weekend, he became the first player to make 300 Premier League appearances for the Club and in doing so, became our record appearance maker in the competition, overtaking Darren Anderton’s 299. The 1-0 win at Molineux represented his 106th clean sheet in the Premier League, and he’s now up to 375 appearances for us in all competitions – up to 17th in our all-time list, and chasing the likes of true greats Cliff Jones (378), Jimmy Greaves (379) and Danny Blanchflower (382).
