Toby Alderweireld enjoyed an emotional return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium recently when he joined us for our UEFA Europa Conference League fixture against Vitesse at the start of last month.
TOBY'S TOP FIVE
One of our great defenders of the modern era, Toby was back for the first time since departing this summer for a new challenge in Qatar, drawing to a close his six years at the Club.

Now 32, Toby played 236 times for us after joining Atletico Madrid in July 2015. He formed a strong central partnership with fellow Belgian Jan Vertonghen – both now international centurions – that laid the defensive foundations for Champions League qualification (2015/16), second place in the Premier League, including our best defensive record in a Premier League season (2016/17, 26 goals conceded) and onto the Champions League Final in June 2019.

“It’s a special feeling to be back,” he said when interviewed pitchside. “I want to say a big ‘thanks’ to everyone for supporting me for six years, you have a special place in my heart, and I really miss you guys. We had a very special team, like a bunch of friends who played football together. If I think about it, it gives me a smile.”

We were saddened to hear of the passing of John ‘Johnnie’ Hills, a defender who spent 11 years at the Club as an amateur and professional between 1950-61. He passed away at home in Brussels, Belgium, on Friday, 26 November, aged 87.
