Interview with full-back Kieran Trippier, who spent four years with burnley prior to his arrival in N17 and is hoping for a victory against his former club this afternoon.
Kieran Trippier spent four happy and successful years with Burnley and still has a lot of friends at the club, but he’s hoping their good start to life in the Premier League stalls this afternoon.
The Bury-born defender featured 185 times for the Clarets after joining them on loan in July, 2011, and making the move permanent six months later. He was virtually ever-present in the league during his time at Turf Moor, missing just six games in four seasons and producing such consistently impressive performances that he was selected in the PFA Championship Team of the Season in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Under the guidance of Sean Dyche, Burnley finished as Championship runners-up in that latter season and Kieran enjoyed his first experience of the Premier League, again playing every game as the club endured a battle to stay in the division throughout the campaign.
Ultimately, that proved unsuccessful and they slipped back down a division, but we had seen enough of Trippier to make a move to bring him to the Lane. He played in all four games against us in that 2014-15 season – including a replayed FA Cup third round tie – and we were delighted when he put pen to paper and joined us in June, 2015.
Meanwhile, his former club wasted no time in returning to the top flight. Last season they went one step further and won the Championship title ahead of Middlesbrough to clinch an immediate return and Kieran believes this time they are here to stay.
