Following seven seasons of total domination in the Greek Superleague, Olympiakos finally had their bubble of omnipotence pricked.
Complacent, error-prone and arguably lucky to finish third, they ended up no fewer than 13 points adrift of new champions AEK and seven behind runners-up PAOK.
It was the classic fall from grace, a campaign in which everything went horribly wrong in every possible way.
There were countless new signings who flopped, notably ex-Partizan striker Uros Djurdjevic, Nigerian front-man Emmanuel Emenike and Belgian midfielder Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe; the dressing room was disjointed and passive; they were docked three points after fans rioted during a defeat at home to AEK in February; and last, but not least, there was the chronic instability in the coaching department, with four bosses – Besnik Hasi, Takis Lemonis, Christos Kontis and Oscar Garcia – coming and going at breakneck speed.
