Scansonic MB6 | Loudspeaker | ₹8,75,800
With a heritage that’s embedded firmly in the high-end, Scansonic isn’t a poor man’s Raidho but more of a bargain hunters dream come true. If you’re wondering what the connection is between the two brands, it’s a bit muddled but the brands share the same owners, most of the engineering team and their philosophy and certainly a hint of aesthetic too. Originally designed by Michael Børresen, the ‘MB’ series has remained the flagship for this Danish brand for a number of years but with a recent change of guard at the helm of speaker design, the MB series models have had a little work done on them by new chief designer, Benno Baun Meldgard (ex-Gamut). Hence the ‘B’ suffix to the MB6 we have on test here. History lessons apart, this is a distinctive looking speaker that grabs your attention with its tall stature and slender girth. The line-array look might be reminiscent of many Raidho designs and there is deep-rooted science in it, but at the centre of it all is the ribbon tweeter with its ultra-low mass that allows it to leapfrog most conventional dome tweeter designs in terms of resolution, airiness and transient response.

YG Acoustics Carmel 3
On paper, the Carmel 3 from Colorado-based speaker specialist YG Acoustics has a credibility problem. They cost a huge amount of money but are small, rather plain-looking two-way floorstanders.
SME Model 20 Mk 2/Series V
