ECHO 4X4’S NEW KUNENE OFF-ROAD
Cost: R471 325.50 GVM: 2 350kg
It’s been a long time coming but Echo 4x4 finally launched their new Kunene off-road caravan, late August, to dealers amidst much fanfare. This new generation off-roader now features a one piece, monocoque fiberglass body – claimed to be corrosion free – and with a laminated floor on a galvanised chassis.
The advantage of this build concept is body strength and insulation. There are no joins between front, side and roof panels, meaning no possibility of water leaks in these areas and, because colour has been mixed into the gelcoat and subsequent fiberglass layers, maintenance is reduced to just a good wash after a trip into Africa. An occasional buff and a rubbing compound should remove most scratches left by those devilish long Acacia thorns one encounters while roughing it.
Extra protection against stone damage to the front of the Kunene comes in the form of heavy duty, aluminum checker plate over the fiberglass front, and as a bonus these plates can be replaced when dented and tired looking!
This model also features independent spring suspension with shock absorbers and 15-inch steel wheels, and includes a spare wheel mounted externally on the rear wall.
Other technical specifications include a length of 6 015mm, width of 2 000mm and height of 2 225mm.
