If Pete McBride looks completely at home on a grassy ridge in Colorado’s Elk Mountains, that’s because he is. “I spent years travelling to remote regions to document other parts of the world,” the award-winning photographer and filmmaker muses. “Now I try to do more and more work at home, focusing on the rivers in my home state.” As a snowstorm rolls towards us, abruptly ending our afternoon of dazzling sunshine, Pete just has time to point out the Maroon Bells — twin peaks of purplish mudstone rising above a glassy lake — before the landscape is swathed in cloud.
