A knife-wielding maniac had set out to kill me

Pulling into the car park, I ran through my plan in my head…

I had to go to my job-search appointment, then pop into town to get my son a birthday present.

It was a Friday morning last May. I have balancing problems, so I’d decided to park at my local Sainsbury’s and get the bus to Hounslow, rather than attempt a long walk.

Stepping out, I saw the bus was due in two minutes. Perfect. But then, suddenly, a scream pierced the air… ‘There’s a man with a knife!’ someone yelled.

Before I could react, he was in front of me, arm outstretched, holding a 4in dagger. And he’d a mad look in his eyes. ‘Please!’ I cried. ‘Don’t hurt me!’ I backed away, scrambling to get back to my car. But the man took a big swing, then plunged the blade into my chest. The pain took my breath away. ‘Stop! Please!’ I rasped. But he took another swing, and the knife went through my jeggings, straight into my hip. The pain was excruciating. I’m going to die in a Sainsbury’s car park, I remember thinking.

The maniac swung again, this time, going for my face.

Instinctively, I put my arm up and the blade sank into my flesh. He was literally carving me up!

Something must’ve distracted him then, because suddenly my attacker turned and disappeared.

For a moment,I stood there in a daze. All I could see was blood.

A crowd had gathered, and someone fetched a chair.
