My brave 1-yearold is half the size of a newborn

Little sleepsuits, titchy socks, adorable teddies... all these lovely images were flooding my mind. ‘I can’t wait to meet my bubba,’ I smiled to my mum Kelly, now 45.

‘You’re only a few weeks gone, love,’ she laughed. ‘There’s months to go yet!’

My dad Darren, 45, chuckled, too, as I concocted the different outfits in my mind. ‘What about the nappies and sleepless nights?’ he chipped in. ‘It’s not all fun and games.’

But he was as excited as me, couldn’t wait to be a grandpa.

Four weeks gone, it was me and my fella, 25-year-old Ben’s first baby.

We didn’t know we wanted a family, but as soon as I fell pregnant we were delighted.

But, I also felt uneasy. My nan was a twin and I had a feeling I was expecting more than one baby.

At five weeks, I insisted we had a special, private scan at a clinic in Birmingham.

It showed two healthy heartbeats.

‘You were right,’ laughed Ben as we left the hospital. I went into planning overdrive.

‘We’ll need a double buggy, two cots, heaven knows how many sleep suits and I daren’t think about the baby wipes...’ I muttered to Ben, noting everything down.

‘Calm down, love,’ he laughed. ‘We’ll manage.’

Soon after, morning sickness arrived and I was too poorly to shop.

Still, it was worth it for the two little beans growing inside me.

At 16 weeks, we had another private scan, where it was revealed one of the babies was a boy.

Doctors couldn’t be sure about the other baby yet, so I returned a few days later... and I was told it was two boys.
