Gazing at the TV, my eyes drooped as fireworks exploded over the River Thames.

The clock had just struck midnight on New Year’s Eve 2018.

It’d been a long time since me and my partner Aaron, 32, had seen in the New Year with drinks on the town.

Not since before our son Ollie, now 9, was born on New Year’s Day in 2010.

Arriving two weeks early, he hadn’t wanted to miss out on the fun!

Now, me and Aaron spent every 31 December preparing for Ollie’s birthday lunch on New Year’s Day – a real double celebration.

But this year, things were a little different.
